Contest Rules and Release Form

Submissions are no longer being accepted at this time.

MSAA requests submissions of artwork from visual artists who have multiple sclerosis. Artists will be nationally recognized through MSAA's Art Showcase program. MSAA will retain rights to use reproductions of the submitted art in various contexts for its constituents.

Art Showcase Rules:

The MSAA Art Showcase honors all people who share their art and thanks the artists for taking the time to share their creative work with us. Following are the rules for entering the Showcase:

1. To enter the Showcase, you must have a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. You will need to include a copy of a doctor's verification of your MS diagnosis.

2. You are able to submit up to three (3) pieces of your artwork per Showcase. The Showcase accepts artwork in the following media: paintings in oil, watercolor, acrylics, tempera, or gouache; drawings in pencil, pen & ink, chalk, crayon, pastels, charcoal, digital, or other drawing media. Graphic design, photography, fabric art, or three-dimensional art (sculpture, mobiles, etc.) are not eligible.

3. The Showcase is open to legal residents of the United States and District of Columbia who are 18 years of age or older as of the date of entry and who are not subject to any agreement that would interfere with their ability to enter this Showcase or assign all rights to be assigned hereunder. Employees of MSAA and any of its affiliated companies and members of their immediate families are ineligible. This Showcase is subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, and is void where prohibited by law. No purchase is necessary to enter or win.

4. Your submission is not complete until we have received your signed Release Form. To file your Release, enter your name and email address on the form below and check the "I agree" button. Or, download and print out the Release Form – then fill in your name and address below and mail to:

5. Email an electronic copy of your artwork to The image(s) should be in color and should be formatted to print out on an 8-1/2" x 11" page. Image(s) should be at least 1 megabyte (MB) - with 300dpi resolution if possible - and no larger than 10 megabytes (MB), with 4 megabytes (MB) as the preferred size. If you are unable to reproduce the image electronically, make an 8-1/2" x 11" full color copy and mail to:

We are not able to return submissions. PLEASE DO NOT SEND ORIGINALS. Submissions that do not conform to the requirements contained herein will be disqualified.

6. Include the title and medium for each work submitted, as well as a short (150 words or less) biographical statement that speaks to your interest in art and includes how MS affects or has affected your art or work methods.

7. All entry materials must have been received by December 15, 2017.

9. This is an electronic showcase of all art submitted.

10. MSAA reserves the right to use the submitted artwork and the artist biographical statement at its discretion in printed material including MSAA publications, cards and calendars, and exhibitions that pertain to the Art Showcase or other expressions of creative ability by practitioners who live with MS as well as in other ways that advance MSAA's mission.

Release Form: 

I hereby authorize the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America, and its employees, agents, representatives, assigns, and affiliates to use my artwork and biographical statement for whatever purpose, including advertising, broadcast or print publicity, promotional materials and membership materials such as newsletters and information.

I hereby provide permission to MSAA to modify, use, assign, or dispose of my submission however it chooses, throughout the world an unlimited number of times in perpetuity, in any manner, all or any portion thereof in connection with the Contest/Showcase or otherwise, without my additional approval.

I hereby provide permission and authorize MSAA to use and license to others in connection with whatever purpose, my name, voice, likeness, and any biographical material that I may provide without any additional consideration, including but not limited to making public announcements which will include the mention that I have multiple sclerosis.

I hereby waive any right of inspection or approval of my entry and the uses that may be made of my entry and I understand that I have not been promised, nor will I receive any monetary compensation for the use of my work.

I warrant that I have the full right to enter into this Contest/Showcase, and that my submission is original and does not infringe the rights of any third parties, and I will indemnify MSAA, its employees, agents, representatives, assigns, and affiliates against all costs and expenses of any kind whatsoever, including reasonable legal expenses, in connection with any claims concerning my submission.

I agree to indemnify, release and hold the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America, its employees, agents, representatives, assigns, and affiliates harmless for any claims as a result of my participation in this contest and I covenant not to sue MSAA, its employees, agents, representatives, assigns, and affiliates for any claims related to MSAA's exercise of the permissions granted hereunder. My electronic signature below is valid.
